My Family Lockdown

A personal project documenting family life during the first few months of the 2020 Coronavirus lockdown

'While we try to teach our children all about life, our children teach us what life is all about' - Angela Schwindt

Documenting ‘real’ family life during the first Covid-19 lockdown, this personal project presents the highs and lows, laughter and tears as we try to adapt as a family to life in lockdown.

About The Project

Covid-19, lockdown, social distancing, face masks. These words meant very little, if anything at all, to the world as we knew it at the beginning of 2020.

But by the start of April 2020 I suddenly found myself, like so many others, adapting to no longer being a working professional and embracing becoming a full-time parent. Our world and society were turned upside down and we embarked on something never experienced in my lifetime. But knowing the positive impact photography has had on my mental health, I knew I had to find a reason to keep picking up the camera daily during this strange period in our lives.

My daughter Charlotte was only 18 months old at the time of the first national lockdown, so I decided to use this opportunity to document what our daily family life was like. The highs and the lows, the tears and tantrums (both mine and hers), and the truly beautiful moments we experienced as a family.

I hope in the years to come this collection of images will allow Charlotte the opportunity to relive this unique experience through my visual memories of our time together.
